1. Macau Part of Trip

Macau was… differently interesting. It’s a kind of place I’ve never been around in my adult life (I’ve been to Vegas a couple times before, but that was as a child, and I didn’t understand what was going on).

Macau is the new gambling center of the world. The Casinos. They are massive. Especially the newer, more modern looking ones. “The Venetian”, “Galaxy”, and “City of Dreams” come to mind. It took a good 10 minutes before we could find out how to exit on the other side of the Galaxy hotel/casino, and then another half hour to do it. Following the canals in the Venetian also takes quite a while. That place was huge. So many shops. So many families. Apparently Macau doesn’t only cater to the adult-gambling crowd, as a lot of little children were seen holding the hands of their mothers and fathers wandering around the Venetian. And at City of Dreams (it’s a combination of 3 hotels/casinos) we could not figure out when we were going from one to the next. We did find where the most massive amazing cirque du soleil show was playing though. Too bad we couldn’t get tickets.

Alright, here’s some pictures of the Casinos and hotels.

This was “The Lisboa”, which is where we stayed. It is one of the older hotels, but there is now the new “Grand Lisboa” across the street…..

… which is significantly larger. It’s supposed to represent a sword cutting into you (and your funds). It’s a fung-shui thing. Chloe said it looks like the head of a carrot. And, well, after she said that, I can’t help but agree. All I see now is carrot.

The lights at night. They’re amazing.

Again I’ve got more pictures of these casinos, both inside and out (including The Venetian’s canals) and if you wanna see, let me know. Otherwise, you can wait until everything is posted on facebook.

Next post: heritage sites and such in Macau. They were nice.
